The White Stripes split-up
Never thought this would happen so soon to be honest. Everyone knew that there was a slight chance they might never record again after they cancelled a string of shows back in 2007, due to Meg suffering anxiety problems, but to do a full announcement (albeit via their website) that they had split up? Well, the reaction from this young female is as follows;
Gutted.
I hate to use that word, but that's the best way to describe it. The White Stripes have been in and around my musical scope ever since the days of Seven Nation Army (when I was 11); it doesn't make me a hardcore fan or anything, but for a girl at that age it made a huge impression.
First off; it rocked. It was the catchiest thing I'd probably ever heard, and it was such a great song that everybody loved from around the world. Even to this day, football and gig crowds still chant it. The video really bewitched me too, and for someone who only really listened to low-grade Pop and 90's club floorfillers (thanks to my sisters) back then, this was a huge eye opener, and it's basically thanks to The White Stripes for getting me into "Rawwwk".
Later on I discovered the rest of their discography, slowly becoming an admirer of all their work. I love the fact that their live shows are so unpredictable (they literally make up the setlist on the spot), I love how minimal their stage set-up is, I love the look, the bluesy influence...just about everything about them I thought was great. You could always count on the two of them to drum up something great.
Just hope we see some great post-White Stripes solo stuff from Jack now, and I hope Meg pops up now and again!
In other news Gary Neville has retired from football, but no-one really cares about that.
